Go natural!

We here at Townley know how anxious you all are for online shopping to be available on our site. Please be patient. We never realized what a process it would be to set everything up!

We promise once it does become available, it will have been worth the wait! But while you're waiting, why not try out a new look?

This week's beauty lesson is on how to look fresh and flirty without too much makeup. For this look you will need:

  • Loose or pressed face powder
  • A neutral shade of eyeshadow
  • Mascara
  • A lip liner that compliments your natural lip color
  • Clear lip gloss or lip balm

First, smooth out your complexion with a dusting of your loose or pressed face powder to even out your skin's natural tones.

Next, apply a bit of neutral eyeshadow. Shade your entire lid, but do not brush above the lid line.

If you like, apply a light coat of the mascara shade of your choice.

For your lips, outline and then fill them in with your liner pencil so that the color is even. If you already have a nice natural color, skip this step!

Top off the look with a tiny bit of clear lip gloss or lip balm for a nice, natural shine.

Tip: Choose brighter or darker tones for a stronger, more made-up look.

How to Choose the Perfect Nail Polish
Monday, March 01, 2010

Picking the perfect nail polish should be based on multiple factors. Are you going to a party, or is it just an everyday shade for school? Many girls like to match their nail color with their lip shade or base it on their skin tone. Here is a list of tips you may want to look at when deciding what color is appropriate for you.

1)     If you’re looking to be the life of the party, you’ll want to try some eye-catching shades like silver or gold or even a metallic purple or blue. If you’ll be wearing any jewelry to this party, make sure to pick the right polish to avoid clashing colors.

2)      For someone with pale skin, stick to lighter colors and certain shades with pink or blue undertones. If you have a darker complexion, try shades of gold or if you’re feeling daring, most red and purple tones will look amazing on you!

3)      Wearing a special shade of lipstick? Try matching your nail polish to your lip shade because, most of the time, if the shade is flattering on your lips, it will work wonders on your tips!

4)       Be careful not to throw off your outfit with an inappropriate shade of polish. When shopping for nail polish, try and visualize your favorite items of clothing and what colors stand out the most. If you have a lot of pink and purple in your wardrobe, don’t buy brown or blue nail polish.

5)       Keep an eye on what’s hot. The current trends can have a huge impact on what nail polish you’ll want to wear during the season. If you relate well to a certain star in the media, it is possible that whatever shades she’s into, you’ll want to follow her lead.

Remember, wearing nail polish should be fun. It is not the end of the world if you realize at the last minute that you forgot to paint your nails or were unable get that manicure with your BFF. Try not to paint your nails more than once a week because it could cause them to dry out and crack or break easier.

Now go give your nails some love!

Ever had trouble finding that perfect shade of lip gloss? If you make your own, you can choose any color you want!

Note: If any ingredients in a recipe cause an allergic reaction, please discontinue use. Please ask an adult to help you before making the lip gloss on your own

For a nice creamy lip gloss, you will need:

2 teaspoons finely grated beeswax (you can find this at most craft stores)

2 tablespoons oil (coconut or almond oil is best, which can be purchased at most health food stores)

1 teaspoon honey

1 teaspoon powder eye shadow, crushed up

2 clean, dry containers (try to use old lip gloss pots or tubes that have been well cleaned)

To make:

  1. In a small saucepan over low heat, stir together beeswax and oil until smooth.
  2. After removing from hot burner, add in the honey and the vanilla.
  3. Allow mixture to cool a bit.
  4. Stir in eye shadow and mix well until blended.
  5. After mixture has cooled completely, transfer to clean containers with a spoon.

*You can put the mixture in the refrigerator, but make sure to keep an eye on it!

  1. Set aside finished product for a few hours to allow for best results.

To use:

  1. Spread a small amount onto your lips.
  2. Rub lips together, blot if necessary.

Love your lips!
Friday, February 19, 2010

Here at Townley, we just can’t wait for spring to, well…spring! To get ready for the warm weather, why not change up your look a bit? If you’re used to darker lip gloss shades that winter welcomes, why not switch to a warmer tone like pink?

Lip gloss gives that fun shiny effect to your lips and will help keep them moisturized, especially now while there is still that winter chill in the air.

To avoid looking messy, make sure to blend correctly. You might also want to apply a light-colored lip balm as a primer to enhance the chosen shade.

Apply gloss on the middle of the bottom lip and rub lips together, which will help to achieve a more even finish. If you feel you have applied too much, simply blot your lips on a tissue until you are satisfied with the look.

To kick it up a notch, try one of our shimmer or glitter lip products, and add some extra shine for springtime!

Townley’s line of lip products come in a ton of fun styles such as cell phone compacts, wearable watches, stackables and more!
