So your daughter wants to paint her nails, just like the other girls in her class. Naturally, you might be nervous. Is she too young? Our little girls are growing up, but with safe manicure products from Townleygirl made specifically for little kids, you don’t have to worry. With one of Townleygirl’s safety-certified, non-toxic nail polishes or mani-pedi spa kits, you can let your daughter’s imagination run wild. Although we also carry nail polish branded with your daughter’s favorite characters like Dory, Marvel superheroes, and Minnie Mouse, we find that nothing beats the perfect princess manicure. Let your daughter choose colors from one of our Disney Princess polish sets, and follow these tips to achieving the absolute perfect princess mani.
1. A Smooth Beginning
First, choose one of our non-toxic Townleygirl Disney Princess nail kits. We personally like the Disney Princess 4 Pack Nail Polish with Nail File. Your daughter will love to have her fingernails filed to pretty, rounded points with the pink file that features Belle, Cinderella, and Aurora. Use long, slow strokes in one direction to produce the smoothest edges.
2. A Clean Canvas
Next, make sure your daughter’s nails are fresh and clean. Massage some hand lotion onto your daughter’s fingers to soften her cuticles. Then swipe a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover over each of her nails, even if there’s no polish on them now. This way, you can be sure to have a clean, non-greasy surface for her nail polish. Finally, have her wash her hands with soap and dry them.
3. The Coolest Color Combos
If you’d like to apply a base coat, do so. Next, it’s time to pick your daughter’s favorite colors. If she’s a less-is-more kind of girl, choose just one shade. It’s hard to go wrong with Aurora’s princess pink. If she’s more fashion-forward, choose two complementary shades. We love the way Ariel’s teal matches with Cinderella’s bright blue. If your daughter chooses two shades, just alternate every other finger with each color.
Sit across from your princess at a table that doesn’t wobble, and have her place her hands flat. Dip your brush into the polish, swipe it across the bottle top to remove any excess, and begin at the middle base of her pointer fingernail. Then move to the base of the nail on the right side, and pull the brush to the tip. Repeat on the left side of the nail. Each nail should only take three, simple strokes, which will help to avoid creating unsightly lines on the finished product. Repeat the process on each nail, ending with the thumb. Complete the other hand and finish with a topcoat if desired.
4. Perfection Takes Patience
Now for the hard part. The most difficult part of getting a manicure is waiting for the polish to dry without messing it up. Ask your daughter to keep her hands flat on the table while you comb her hair, tell her a story, or even turn on one of her favorite Disney Princess movies. This is a great chance to have some special time together while the polish dries. To speed up the drying process, try blowing a hairdryer on each hand for a minute or so.
Ta-da! In only four easy steps, your little girl can sport the perfect princess manicure. And if you have extra time, how about doing yours to match?
