You love your two (or more!) little girls, and they love each other…even if they do sometimes fight. Sisters always have each other’s backs, and now there is a holiday to celebrate that special bond. National Sister’s Day is becoming more and more popular every year. Timeanddate.com describes the holiday as one that honors “…the strong bond that people share with their sister(s)… [and] to acknowledge the joy and love that your sister brings into your life and to make sure that she knows that you cherish all that she does for you.” So this year, on National Sister’s Day (August 6, 2017), you have a chance to not only make sure your own sis feels appreciated but to also help your little girls express their love to each other.
Making and setting up decorations is always one of the best parts of holidays like Christmas, Hanukah, or Easter. Do you have awesome memories of stringing popcorn onto thread to hang on the tree? Why not borrow the memory-making magic of some of those bigger holidays and apply it to Sister’s Day? Decorating with pictures of the sisters together, or hearts, or things both sisters love, are all good ideas to work with.
2. Matching Outfits
When your girls were really little, did you ever dress them in matching outfits? Now that they’re a bit older, they may not normally relish the idea of twinning in public, but chances are they’ll be willing and excited to dress alike for the holiday. So plan ahead by grabbing matching dresses, or if you’d rather pull an ensemble out of their closet, everyone has a white t-shirt and jeans, right?
3. Disney Sister Makeovers
In your little girls’ eyes, who is the coolest pair of sisters around? Why, Elsa and Anna, of course! Disney’s Frozen has likely been a movie staple in your house during recent years, and here is one more way to help your girls enjoy the movie they love. These favorite Disney sisters don’t always get along perfectly, but their love makes them the perfect pair. Sound familiar? Gift your girls with matching Frozen Beauty Sets on the morning of Sister’s Day, and help them give each other matching Frozen makeovers! Pro tip: check out our past tutorials on how to achieve perfect “Princess Anna braids” or “Elsa’s side braid with sparkles.”
4. Document the Love
One of the good parts about being a parent is always having our phones in our hands these days so that we’ll never be caught without a camera during a cute moment with our kids! Make sure to get a few snaps of your daughters celebrating their love together. You can even get the girls involved by asking them to get behind the camera, and each take a portrait of the other. If they’re old enough to have social media accounts, consider allowing them to post the pics with the hashtag: #nationalsistersday so they can get in on the fun!
