When your kiddos were tiny, they probably couldn’t wait to jump in the bath tub, dump in all their floating plastic toys, and splash the afternoon away. But if there’s one thing we mothers learn from raising kids, it’s that change is constant, and nothing stays the same forever (no matter how much we might want it to!). If bath time has become boring to your kids lately, it might feel more like a chore to coax them into getting clean—rather than the fun, sensory activity it used to be. But worry not, moms! These ideas can help you reclaim the fun. Here are our top three tips to make bath time fun again:
1. Rainbow Water
It’s crazy simple. If you’ve never done this before, you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it! Grab a multi-pack of different shades of food coloring drops next time you’re at the store. A few drops into the bath water will turn the tub into an exciting, colorful adventure-land! And since this stuff is very gentle, it won’t stain the baby or the tub (we know you were wondering). You can try a different color every day to make a bath time rainbow over the course of the week to keep them guessing. Just pour the food coloring directly under the tap when the water is flowing for equal distribution. You can even create a pretty rainbow mix within a single bath! To do this, fill the bathtub all the way. Then squeeze a few drops into one corner of the bath and lightly swirl, add a few drops of another color to the middle and lightly swirl, and repeat in the opposite corner. The colors are likely to blend after a little splashing and playing, but it will look awesome to your kids as they get in the tub.
2. Pretend You Are Going to the Beach
Lay out your most colorful beach towel, and throw in a plastic sand bucket, shovel, and beach ball. Then have your little one put on a bathing suit and sunglasses. For an extra touch, bust out some beachy tunes on your phone’s speaker (away from the water, of course) and even bring in a nice fruity beverage with a straw and an umbrella. This works best if you really get into setting the scene together, or if you surprise them on a special occasion. Either way, get into it! And remember, it’s always more fun to play make-believe with someone else, so throw in two kiddos, or grab your sunscreen and a piña colada, and pull up a lawn chair to hang bath-side with your little beach-goer.
3. Trade in Boring Suds for Play-Doh Soap
Soap-phobic kids will change their tune when you add Play-Doh’s new moldable soap into the mix. Yes, you read that right! And try not to be too jealous that they didn’t have this stuff when you were a kid. Moldable, squeezable, squishable soap clay is a sensory delight for any kid, whether they dread their baths or not. Townleygirl carries this squeaky clean toy/soap in packs of five that come in purple, blue, orange, green, and pink. Bath time may have just changed forever!
