7 Things You Didn’t Know about Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation
Mwahahahahaha! TownleyGirl reveals 7 Things You Didn’t Know about Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation in honor of it's third run premiering in theaters Friday, July 13, 2018!
#1: Dracula gets a new spin in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, which will be released on July 13. Adam Sandler co-wrote the first two Hotel Transylvania flicks, but this time he left the script to director Genndy Tartakovsky. Don’t worry, super-fans! Sandler still plays the cranky Dracula we all know and love. This time around, his daughter Mavis surprises him with a vacation cruise, where he’ll search for romance among monster volleyball matches and moon tanners.
#2: Love is tricky. Drac’s new love interest, Captain Ericka, turns out to be a descendant of his biggest enemy: Abraham Van Helsing! The cruise was set up as a trap to take out the Count and his monster friends!
#3: The all-star cast is back. Andy Samberg returns as Jonathan, Mavis’ husband; and Molly Shannon reprises her role as Wanda the werewolf. Kevin James’ Frankenstein looms large on deck with his wife, Eunice, played by Fran Drescher, close by his side. David Spade also returns as fan favorite The Invisible Man. The crew will be sure to work their hilarity on deck!
#4: The original Hotel Transylvania, released on Sept 28, 2012, (which also happened to be World Rabies Day), was an unexpected hit, becoming the 19th grossing film of 2012.
#5: The movie was all about authenticity. The town that housed the Hotel Transylvania was based on Wallachia, the town where the real Dracula, Vlad the Impaler, was born. In the first film, Mavis’s mother, Martha, was killed by a mob in 1895, and the hotel was opened in 1898. Bram Stoker wrote the book Dracula in 1896, and it was released in 1897. The film followed the original Dracula story as if it shared events that occurred in real life!
#6: All three movies draw heavily on the actors to shape the characters' personalities. Mavis was drawn to resemble Selena Gomez, and Andy Samberg, who plays Jonathan, Mavis’ husband, says he based the easy-going character on his Bay Area friends.
#7: For Adam Sandler, casting is a family affair. His real-life wife Jackie provided the voice for Martha, and his daughters have played everyone from young Mavis to werewolf puppies in the films. We’ll have to listen closely to see who they’ll play in Hotel Transylvania 3!
