I’ll be the first to admit that I squealed when Disney premiered its first Latina Princess, Elena of Avalor. I may have even been more excited than my little girl. I’ve always been obsessed with all things Disney, and this time they were finally giving the Latino community a princess that would reflect us. Now, I even see her as a hero worthy of being honored during Hispanic Heritage Month, and every day.
When Elena of Avalor finally made its debut on the Disney Channel, my daughter was instantly hooked. She wanted all things Elena, and wanted to be strong and bold just like her, too. There wasn’t a ton of Elena merchandise at first, but slowly, we started getting dolls, costumes, books, and my daughter’s personal favorite: this Elena beauty kit.
See, my 4-year-old is already a makeup junkie. Guess I can blame it on the fact that I’ve worked as a beauty editor throughout most of my career, and my home is filled with tons and tons of products. She’s always making believe to apply blush and lipstick, or do her nails. But I’m not big on allowing her to use the adult stuff. That’s when these Elena items really came in handy. TownleyGirl introduced us to an Elena of Avalor nail art collection, which comes complete with 2 toe spacers, a nail file, and 5 pretty polish colors to choose from. We also snagged an Elena of Avalor grape flavored lip balm!
Wanting to “look like Elena,” my daughter was ready to jump at the chance to try it all. I painted her nails with the blue polish, applying it on four of her fingers. To give that touch of princess, I added the purple glitter polish to her ring fingers. For her toes, she decided to mix it up by using the pink polish, because every princess likes a touch of pink. The best part about these Elena polishes is they come off all on their own with a little bit of water — no nail polish remover required.
